ABOUT STEVE LAMONT

Steve started practising Iyengar yoga in 1995 and since 1998 he has visited India annually to study. He has been taught by B.K.S. Iyengar, his son Prashant and his daughter Geeta and many of their senior teachers in India, Europe and the USA.

He has been teaching full time since 2002 and co-founded the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Birmingham. He is a co-director of the Institute and teaches weekly classes and workshops there. He also teaches weekly classes in St. Albans, where he also lives.

He is an intermediate junior level 3 Iyengar teacher™.

He is qualified and insured to teach all levels from complete beginners to intermediate students with many years experience. He is also qualified and insured to teach yoga for pregnancy and remedial yoga. He has taught cricketers at the English cricket board, athletes at the national sports academy and many dedicated students from Birmingham and St Albans!

“I enjoy the challenge, depth and reward of practising yoga asana and integrating yoga and ayurveda into my everyday life."

HOW I CAME TO YOGA

I was one of the least able and capable students when I went to my first yoga classes but they gave me a peace of mind which was lacking after my usual working day.

Luckily my first classes were with a senior teacher Jayne Orton who had studied with the Iyengar family. I found her dedication inspiring and still attend her weekly classes.

I eventually fell into the teacher training programme after many years of attending regular classes, practising at home and a few visits to India to study with the Iyengars and their teachers. It was a natural progression as the amount of information I gathered made me ready to start to learn how to give back to others.

I've always found that teachers in the Iyengar tradition give help and guidance freely to sincere students in such a way that encourages self discipline, improvement and empowerment.  I'm grateful for all the tuition I've received.
